ABSOLUTELY! Cheaper shampoos tend to be more aggressive on the hair removing too much of the natural oils from the strands leading to less manageability, a dryer texture and flyaways. Adversely, cheap conditioners leave too much behind on the hair masking the effects of the shampoo leaving the hair weighed down and less responsive to styling. A great professional shampoo will gently cleanse your locks leaving them full and moisturized. High-end conditioners will smooth and nourish your hair only as much as needed then rinse clean never leaving heavy residues behind.
I can’t tell you how many “trims” we repair or straighten out. We have a different mindset than the average salon stylist. You have to think about what you’re leaving on the head and not what you’re removing. It doesn’t matter if you cut a ¼ inch or 12 inches. Remember, you are paying for what is left on your head not what is swept up. Hair is like a material. You wouldn’t buy a dress too long or too wide. This is the only outfit you wear every day for roughly 6 weeks, so when you look in the mirror, you’d better love it. It’s worth it to invest in a great cut!

Yes. Just because 2 dryers say 1800 watts doesn’t mean they have the same power. It’s like a Porsche vs. a Volkswagen. Both can go 100 mph, however, the Porsche can do it much easier and efficiently. You pay for the quality of the motor. A strong dryer can cut your styling time in half. It will create much more body and volume for lifeless hair or smooth down curly, frizzy or unruly hair quicker. Brushes can help or hinder the styling process. Ceramic barrels conduct the heat which helps bend and curl the hair. You can take slightly larger sections and pull through it without difficulty because the ceramic slides along the strands more easily. Also, they can smooth and straighten hair provided you don’t roll the brush too much. Natural bristle brushes (boar hair) are created to smooth and straighten hair and they really increase the shine. They are great for the hair as well as the scalp. It is easier to get the tension you need to make curly hair straight because natural bristles grab better. The only downfall is you can potentially get them tangled if you take too big of a section or are in a hurry. Whichever brush you choose, always direct the airflow down the hair shaft towards the ends as this will eliminate frizz and static. After your styling session, finish with a cool blast from your dryer running your hands throughout to loosen up the look. A great blow-dry should look airy and tousled, not stuck too perfectly in place like a helmet.
